Step 2: Calculate Mulch Yard Total
Sq Feet first, then Sq Yards
First calculate square feet...
Measure length and width of area to be covered by mulch
Multiply length x width = Total Square Feet
Next calculate how many sq yards you need...
Multiply Total Sq Feet x 3 inches (recommended depth of mulch)
Divide that total by 108 (conversion figure for 3" coverage) = Total Sq Yards Needed!
Note: If your site contains areas that are not square, divide the areas into the following:
For a Triangle Area - multiply 1/2 x length of base x length of height
For a Circle Area - multiply 3.1416 x the square of the radius
Add up the sq ft for all the areas. Learn more here.
Example: 16' x 10' = 160 sq ft x 3" mulch depth = 480 sq ft divided by 108 = 4.4 Sq Yards of Mulch
